Open States' stated mission is to improve civic engagement.
To be true to that goal, we can not stand by and be silent when a large portion of Americans face systemic racism and other forms of oppression. That oppression has meant being excluded from civic participation at the ballot box, being called un-American for peaceful protests, and being denied justice for crimes committed against them.
Under the Revenue and Taxation Code, various laws, including the Personal Income Tax Law, the Corporation Tax Law, the Sales and Use Tax Law, the Alcoholic Beverage Tax Law, the Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax Law, the Diesel Fuel Tax Law, and the Vehicle License Fee Law, impose taxes and provide for the collection and administration of those taxes.
This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact statutory changes to those laws.
